Penybanc to step up campaign against development

More than 100 people turned out over the weekend in a joint protest between Cymdeithas yr Iaith and Penybanc residents opposing the development of 289 houses, activists heard speakers from the local action group and Cymdedeithas yr Iaith and discussed the next steps of their campaign in the county. There is strong local and county-wide opposition to the development because of the community and the Welsh language impact it would have in Carmarthenshire.

Today (Saturday 13th April) members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith have raised a banner to declare their opposition to a controversial housing development in Penybanc near Ammanford. The banner, which states “Nid yw Sir Gâr ar Werth” ("Carmarthenshire is not for sale"), was raised at the entrance to the site of the proposed development which language campaigners and local people claim will undermine the Welsh-speaking community.

Campaigners present Welsh-language pledge by 1300 Carmarthenshire people to Council

Today, young members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith presented a pledge signed by over 1300 Carmarthen shire people to the Chair and Deputy CEO of Carmarthenshire County Councoil on the steps of County Hall. The 1300 had pledged to live their lives through the medium of Welsh and to press the Council and other auuthorities to create the conditions to make that possible.

Er gwaethaf y tywydd gaeafol, daeth dros 500 o bobl o bob rhan o Sir Gaerfyrddin i Neuadd y Sir yng Nghaerfyrddin fore Dydd Sadwrn 19eg Ionawr 2013 er mwyn arwyddo Adduned “Dwi eisiau Byw yn Gymraeg” a chlywed rhai o bobl adnabyddus ac amlwg Sir Gaerfyrddin yn nodi pam eu bod nhw'n cymryd “Munud i Addunedu”.

"We want to live in Welsh"

People from all over Carmarthenshire are expected to attend a rally held by Cymdeithas yr Iaith outside County Hall, Carmarthen on Saturday January 19th 2013 to voice their concerns about the dramatic decline in the numbers of Welsh speakers in the county and to demand a future for local Welsh-speaking communities.

Bydd pobl o ar draws Sir Gaerfyrddin yn ymgynnull wrth Neuadd y Sir am 11am fore Sadwrn 19eg Ionawr 2013 i ddatgan eu pryder am y dirywiad yn nifer y siaradwyr Cymraeg yn y sir ac i fynnu dyfodol i gymunedau lleol Cymraeg. Yn arwain y dorf i addunedu eu bod "Eisiau byw yn Gymraeg" bydd teuluoedd rhai o arwyr y Sir fel Gwynfor a Ray Gravell yn ogystal â ffigurau amlwg o fyd gwleidyddiaeth a diwylliant.
